JAMB registrar monitors 2024 UTME in Abuja, confident of hitch-free process

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration process. The exercise is taking place in over 700 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide, with over 1.98 million candidates participating. The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has expressed satisfaction with the process, stating that it has been largely hitch-free across the country.

During his visit to the Kogo CBT Centre in Bwari Area Council of Abuja, Oloyede noted that the examination body’s earlier order prohibiting parents from being present during the examination is being adhered to, with parents staying hundreds of metres away from the examination premises. The registrar also disclosed that only one CBT centre has encountered a challenge so far, but he is optimistic that the first examination will be hitch-free in more than 90 percent of the centres.

Oloyede urged candidates to be upright and introduced some technological innovations to combat fraudsters. He also criticized tutorial centres, referring to them as ‘centres for corruption’ and ‘examination malpractice’. The UTME registration process began on Monday, April 21, 2024, and will end on February 24, 2024.

The JAMB registrar emphasized the importance of candidates adhering to the rules and regulations set by the board, including the prohibition of parents being present during the examination. He also highlighted the need for candidates to be honest and avoid engaging in any form of fraudulent activities.

Oloyede’s visit to the Kogo CBT Centre was part of his monitoring of the UTME exercise, which he believes will be hitch-free in the majority of centres. The registrar also emphasized that when a session fails, candidates will be rescheduled to write the examination again, and the earliest time for rescheduling is after 4:30 pm.

The JAMB helmsman also took a swipe at tutorial centres, describing them as ‘centres for corruption’ and ‘examination malpractice’. He pointed out that most of these centres are owned by school dropouts and urged parents to be wary of such establishments.

In conclusion, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing UTME exercise, which has been largely hitch-free across the country. He has emphasized the importance of candidates adhering to the rules and regulations set by the board and has criticized tutorial centres as ‘centres for corruption’ and ‘examination malpractice’. The UTME registration process began on April 21, 2024, and will end on February 24, 2024.
