In a groundbreaking achievement, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been crowned the best university of agriculture in Africa and has secured the impressive seventh position globally, according to the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2024.

The announcement was met with jubilation from the university community, with Professor Babatunde Kehinde, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, expressing his delight and extending heartfelt congratulations to the entire university community for their collective efforts in achieving this significant milestone. Professor Kehinde also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration within the university to reach even greater heights.

The 2024 World University Rankings utilized the newly implemented 3.0 methodology, meticulously evaluating 2,671 entries from 1,906 universities across 108 countries and regions. The assessment involved 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators, focusing on five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry connections, and international outlook.

An integral part of the ranking process was the analysis of over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications, coupled with survey responses from 68,402 scholars globally. In total, a staggering 411,789 data points were meticulously gathered from 2,673 institutions that submitted their data for evaluation.

The credibility of the Times Higher Education Rankings, renowned and trusted worldwide by students, educators, governments, and industry experts, was reaffirmed by the 2024 league table. This edition highlighted significant shifts in the global higher education landscape and underscored FUNAAB’s exceptional standing on the international stage.

Notably, in the 2023 Sub-Saharan Africa University rankings, FUNAAB had already secured the second position in Nigeria and was acknowledged as the best public university in the country. The recent global recognition further solidifies FUNAAB’s reputation as a leading institution dedicated to excellence in agriculture and related fields.
