How to resolve NIN issues

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has addressed concerns raised by 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates facing challenges with their National Identification Number (NIN). This directive comes as the board continues its adherence to the compulsory use of NIN for registration since the year 2021.

JAMB emphasized that the utilization of NIN is crucial in preventing multiple registrations and ensuring the verification of the candidate’s identity. The process of obtaining a profile code for exam registration is intricately tied to the use of the NIN.

The registration for the 2024/2025 UTME commenced on January 15 and is set to conclude on February 26. Despite the smooth registration process for many candidates, a subset has expressed dissatisfaction, noting disparities between the information provided by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and what was recorded during the registration phase.

Responding to the growing complaints, JAMB announced its intention to hold a meeting with the leadership of NIMC to address the discrepancies. In a post on its official platform on Wednesday, the board urged candidates experiencing NIN-related issues to reach out via email to [email protected].

Prospective UTME/DE candidates were instructed to send their National Identification Numbers (NIN) along with their complaints to the designated email address. The statement read, “To all prospective UTME/DE candidates, how to resolve NIN issues: send your National Identification Number (NIN) as a mail to [email protected].”

As the 2024 UTME is scheduled to take place from March 19 to April 29, JAMB emphasized the importance of addressing NIN issues promptly to ensure a seamless registration process. Candidates embarking on the registration process are also advised to be mindful of potential mistakes to avoid complications in their application.

In light of this development, JAMB remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent examination process, urging candidates to cooperate and adhere to the necessary procedures outlined for a successful UTME registration.
