JAMB Directs 2024 Mock-UTME Candidates to Bring ‘Ordinary HB Pencil’

Strict Guidelines in Place for Mock Exam on Thursday, March 7, 2024

In a bid to ensure a smooth conduct of the Mock-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Mock-UTME), the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a directive for candidates to bring only ‘ordinary HB pencils’ to the examination hall for numerical analysis. This announcement came through a statement from JAMB’s Spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Wednesday.

Dr Benjamin emphasized that this directive is exclusive to the Mock-UTME scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024, and does not alter the rules set for the main examination slated for April 19, 2024. Candidates have been advised to strictly adhere to the specified guidelines to avoid any complications during the examination process.

The statement clarified the uncertainty surrounding the use of HP pencils, stating, “Candidates sitting for the Mock-UTME are allowed to bring an ordinary HP pencil if they wish to use it for numerical analysis. However, it is crucial to note that this permission is only applicable to the Mock-UTME and does not extend to the main examination.”

With a surge in inquiries from candidates and the general public regarding the acceptability of HP pencils, the JAMB spokesperson highlighted the importance of this clarification. “Candidates are urged to note that they are to come with only one pencil to their respective examination centres as specified while ensuring that they are not in possession of any other prohibited items,” the statement read.

JAMB remains committed to maintaining the integrity and fairness of the examination process, and candidates are reminded that other writing materials, aside from the specified pencil, remain strictly prohibited in both the Mock-UTME and the main examination.

As candidates gear up for the Mock-UTME on Thursday, it is essential for them to familiarize themselves with the provided guidelines and adhere to the rules to guarantee a seamless and successful examination experience. JAMB assures all stakeholders that the examination body is fully prepared to conduct a transparent and credible examination process for all candidates involved.
