JAMB Gives Candidates Instruction on What to Do on NIMC Platform
In preparation for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a crucial directive to candidates, emphasizing that names are non-changeable on its portal. In a statement released on Monday, January 22, JAMB urged prospective UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates to initiate any necessary changes via the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) platform prior to proceeding with the registration process.

The examination body clarified that any information extracted from the NIMC platform remains unaltered, underscoring the importance of candidates ensuring accurate details on the NIMC platform before registering for the UTME or DE.
A tweet posted on X (formerly Twitter) by JAMB reiterated this crucial information:
“Please note that names are not changeable on the JAMB portal. Candidates have been advised to effect all necessary changes on the NIMC platform before proceeding for UTME/DE registration, as any information pulled from that platform by JAMB remains untampered.”
One week into the commencement of the sale of forms for the 2024 UTME, prospective applicants have encountered challenges in linking their mobile telephone lines with their National Identification Number (NIN). Additionally, some applicants have reported discrepancies in the information contained in their NIN details, causing frustration among candidates and their guardians.
In response to the escalating concerns, JAMB has acknowledged the issues and disclosed plans to hold a meeting with the leadership of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the organization responsible for NIN. This meeting aims to address the challenges faced by candidates and streamline the application process.
JAMB’s decision to use NIN for the application process is part of the examination body’s efforts to curb malpractices such as impersonation. However, the recent challenges have prompted a proactive response from JAMB, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach with the NIMC to ensure a smooth and seamless registration experience for UTME and DE candidates.

As the 2024 UTME registration continues, candidates are urged to promptly address any discrepancies on the NIMC platform to avoid complications during the application process. JAMB remains committed to maintaining the integrity of the examination and providing a fair and transparent platform for all eligible candidates.
