UTME Registration Commences as JAMB Accredits 747 CBT Centres Nationwide

Joint Admission and Matriculations Board unveils measures for smooth registration process

In preparation for the 2024/2025 Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has officially commenced the registration process today, with an accreditation of 747 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.

Speaking during a meeting with media executives in Lagos State on Sunday, the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, assured stakeholders that rigorous measures have been put in place to ensure the efficiency and credibility of the registration exercise.

Oloyede emphasized, “Prior to the commencement of the registration exercise, the Board conducts an accreditation exercise to check the suitability of each CBT Centre for the conduct of its examination.” The accreditation team comprised Chief External Examiners (VCs/Rectors/Provosts), Technical Advisors, JAMB state coordinators, and JAMB Technical Officers.

As part of the registration process, candidates are required to create a profile using their National Identity Number at various Computer-Based Test centres nationwide. The generation of profiles can be done using JAMB USS codes 55019 or 66019. The registrar, however, cautioned that “Only one sort code is allowed to avoid multiple charges,” making it a compulsory step for candidates.

The registration fee for the UTME is set at N3,500, and payments are to be made through a cashless system to prevent any form of extortion. The payment serves as a unique verification tool, and candidates are required to thumbprint to conclude the registration process.

JAMB disclosed that 747 CBT centres have been accredited for the 2024 UTME, indicating an increase of 134 centres compared to the 613 approved centres in 2023. Lagos leads the states with the highest number of accredited centres at 80, followed by Ogun with 44, and Oyo with 42 centres. Conversely, Zamfara has the lowest number of accredited centres at 6, while Ebonyi and Kebbi States both have 8 centres each.

A breakdown by PUNCH Online revealed that the South-West geopolitical zone boasts the highest number of CBT centres, totaling 226, while the North-East has the lowest with 67 centres. The increased accreditation of CBT centres aims to enhance accessibility and efficiency in the conduct of the 2024 UTME.
